Our family safari to Tanzania was the trip of a lifetime–and made even more special because of Raphie Mpille. For two weeks, by our side, he made every day an adventure filled with history lessons, great stories and memories. His knowledge of wildlife; the feeding habits and species’ routines provided incredible photo opportunities . When other tour guides would leave an area, Raphie would remain patiently assuring us it would be worth it. He had a keen sense when the pride would approach or the herd would appear. We knew Africa would be amazing, but Raphie took it to another level. Charming, accommodating and so much fun!

Raphiele’s warmth and attention to our sons, ages 11 and 14 during our 20 days of safari together was incredible. And, by the way, we saw more wildlife “on our own” on the Serengeti Plain, Tarangire, and several other parks, than we ever thought possible! Raphiele traveled farther out each day, found the isolated wild foxes, or the 3 cheetah brothers on a kill in deep vegetation, or the 178th new bird species, each and every day, with a huge smile on his face. Raphiele always took us the extra mile beyond the crowds of safari vehicles, woke up the extra 60 minutes early for a dawn safari, stayed out until the last minute at dusk. My father was an intense bird watcher all through my childhood, and I accompanied him many places for a Life Bird- Raphiele knows ALL the East African birds by sight, and even by left wingtip! If you are a birder with a Life List to fill, Raphiele is the man for you.
